All SCC programming devoted to transmen will be held at the Feminist Health Center (not the Ravinia Hotel) on this date. Programming, speakers, and activities are updated on an ongoing basis. Please check back weekly. (learn more at www.SCCAtl.org) History The Robert Eads Health Partnership was formed in memory of Robert Eads, a transman who suffered under the transphobic and discriminatory health care system in Georgia. In 1999, Robert Eads died of ovarian cancer after being refused treatment by dozens of doctors in and around the Atlanta area. The Southern Comfort Conference is proud to sponsor the Robert Eads Health Fair, offering lower exams and consultations for transmen and trans-masculine individuals at no cost. This fair is hosted by Feminist Health Center, a non-profit organization that provides health services in a safe, trans-affirmative environment. FHCs protocols are designed to reduce barriers to health care for transgender individuals without compromising the quality of services they provide to all clients. FHC Medical Services Available The Feminist Health Center s Trans Health Initiative (THI) program specializes in services devoted to FTM, transmasculine, and intersex clients. The THI program offers physical exams (including pelvic and lower exams with HPV testing), chest exams (pre and post-surgical), STI screenings, and lab work as needed throughout the year. Feminist Health Center also provides testosterone prescriptions to individuals interested in hormone replacement therapy. The program requirements for hormone replacement with testosterone include a current lower exam (within medical guidelines), a consultation with the nurse practitioner and THI coordinator, and lab work testing for specific endocrine levels and metabolic functions. The FHC medical director may request further follow up after review of medical history and lab results. SCC will cover the cost of a FHC physical exam, infection check, and/or consultation for conference attendees. If you can afford to pay for these services we ask that you make a donation during the registration process to extend help to others. Additional services and labs are available at reduced prices.
