Big Brother/Big Sister

At Southern Comfort we pride ourselves on providing something for every aspect of the gender spectrum, we especially do not want to forget some of the most important people at the conference: those new to the Gender Community.

If you are looking for a warm, friendly environment for your first time out, this is the place and we have people here ready to offer support. From help getting out of the room the first time, to just pointing you in the right direction, we want to make sure your SCC experience is a positive one. We will accomplish this two ways.

First, if requested, we'll provide a dedicated Big Brother/Sister. If you want someone to come and talk to you in your room, before you go out to face the world, we’re there for you. We’ll spend as much individual time with you as you need. We will also help you to find your way around the conference, to seminars of interest and to events outside the hotel.

Second, an orientation for newcomers covering everything from restroom etiquette to what to expect during and after you leave the conference. There will also be time set aside at the end of the orientation for a question and answer session. This will be followed by a mixer attended by many conference regulars, who are always willing to share a story or two. A great way to meet and learn about other members of our community.

Need a Big Brother or Big Sister Now?

Even though the conference is scheduled for September, your Big Brother or Big Sister is ready to contact you as early as July.  Not only will they help you through your concerns about the conference, but most of the time they will befriend you as someone you can count on for being there when needed.

If possible, we will try to find someone in your home state or your home city to be there ahead of time and explain what Southern Comfort is all about.  We do not lend assistance with physical issues or dressing services.  However, we are there for you to help you with all your other needs.

For additional information, to request assistance or to volunteer as a Big Brother/Sister, please send e-mail to bigsib@sccatl.org and our program coordinator will respond.
